Under health and safety law, as an employer or person in control of a premises (e.g. a landlord) there are health and safety duties and suitable precautions that must be taken to prevent or control the risk of exposure to Legionella.

Records should be kept of the checks and tests carried out and the results of any inspections including the dates these were done. A record of any significant findings must also be made and should be retained for at least five years. A log book is an ideal way to keep a permanent record on file at the premises.
